2019 Season Update
- The Time is Near
It's been 4 long, and
in most cases cold, months since the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing
Series participants went into the winter hiatus. March 7th that
ends and the 2019 season begins. The so-called nostalgia drag
racing racers and fans will come together at the fabled Famoso
Drag Strip outside of Bakersfield for the 61st annual March Meet.
Although there are
over 400 entries, the stars of the 4 day show are the Top Fuel
and Funny Cars. Among the dozen or so Top Fuel entries, none
will be going in better prepared than Jim Murphy and his WW2
Racing team. Murphy and right hand man Daniel Wilkison shrugged
off a dismal 2018 limited campaign and have gotten back into
their 2017 Championship mind set. Moreso, Jim is still shooting
for his record breaking 6th March Meet win.
"We had made plans
to test at either Phoenix or Bakersfield over the 9th10th
of Feb but there was too much rain." said Murphy. "We've
amassed a lot of new parts and innovative ideas that need to
be tested before the race. The car has been ready for some time
now and hopefully we can gets some runs in at Bakersfield on
February 22-24. It all depends on the weather."
Along with Murphy,
everyone in the class will have their sights on the 2018 Top
Fuel Champion Mendy Fry who had a stellar season and is expected
to pick up where the High Speed team left off. Murphy feels his
is up to the task.
Unlike 2018, Murphy
plans to contest every race in the series which is great news
for his sponsors
and fans. 2019
