 Murphy 's Law Again

Bakersfield, CA - March 08, 2015:

The 57th edition of the fabled March Meet offered five days of true Chamber of Commerce weather. In fact, it was nearly impossible to find anyone who had ever experienced five more consistent days of perfect racing temps - ever. With a full complement of race cars and a sell out fan base on Saturday, it can be said that the Bowser family and the Famoso track crew hit another home run.

Unlike the California Hot Rod Reunion in October which is a gathering that includes a race, the March Meet is a hard core drag race. That is not to say that the grounds aren't littered with geezers, its just that the focus is on the race track and everyone wants to win the most prestigious race of the year.

All this said, the weekend did not result in the elusive fifth March Meet title for Jim Murphy. For over a decade he has been tied at four wins at this prestigious event.

Murphy's Law states that anything than can go wrong, will go wrong and that sums up this forgettable weekend. In spite of it all, Murphy being who he is, came out of the fiasco with a positive attitude mainly because they found out the major problem that plagued them on every run.

1st Qualifying Session

Pair two of the first session Friday featured Jim Young in the Mill Road Boys BBC car and Jim Murphy in his WW2 Racing entry.

Murphy was on a good pass until he got out of the groove and was forced to lift.

In the lights it was Young carding a 6.00 at 220.90 while Jim Murphy was also sub-par with a 6.07 at 231.10.

2nd Qualifying Session

Bakersfield is one of the finest drag strips in the country but after the sun goes down, it gets cold! Jim Murphy and Denver Schutz were out next to challenge the track.

Neither car could hook up and were done really early.

3rd Qualifying Session

The third and last session on Saturday paired up Murphy Ron August.

August went up in tire smoke almost instantly.

Murphy carded a disappointing full pull of 5.960 at 255.24 which left Murphy in the #9 spot for eliminations.

Eliminations - Round One

Round one went off Saturday afternoon. Murphy was paired with Rick McGee.

Murphy served notice going low with a nice 5.745 at 245.36, while Sorokin's 6.294 at 207.66 at least gave the team some data.

Murphy got there first with a 5.977 at 257.97. Another big mph run with a disappointing ET. McGee shut off to a 6.042 at 213.67.

Eliminations - Round One

Leading off in Top Fuel on Sunday it was Murphy and Denver Schutz.

Murphy got a slight jump at the start.

Just past half track Murphy was experiencing tire chunking and had to shut off. He can clearly be seen checking out the left slick and you can see the rubber coming up on the top of the tire.

Aside from the tire issues Murphy also concluded that the poor ET's were due to a batch of clutch discs that were far to hard, an issue that was corrected before their next race.

Check out where Murphy and the Team are racing next....
